Creating a Better Quality Sleeping Experience
Project Type: Packaging Design and Advertising
Role: Naming, Conceptualizing, Logo Ideation and Design, Illustration, Creative Direction, Graphic Design, Copywriting, Design and UX Researching
Tools: Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Lightroom
OPPORTUNITY
Many competing brands have designed pillowcases with a focus on the comfort, texture, and material of the pillowcase. Fine materials such as cotton, linen, flannel, and rayan are generally used to enhance user comfort during sleeping and lounging. With the use of a baking soda formula infused into the fibers of the pillowcase, common bacteria and build-up from skin and oil are both prevented and killed.
PROBLEM
Pillowcases hold bacteria, dust, and oils that can be harmful to our health.
SOLUTION
Pillowcases that refresh themselves in-between washes.
Process
Logo Development
Initial Ideation
Concept 1
With this concept, letterforms were manipulated to resemble the positions of the body when sleeping.
Concept 2
Features a moon symbol encompassing the type logo, representing the feeling of comfort and safety, highlighting the brand’s goals of providing quality sleep and rejuvenation.
Concept 3
Features manipulated letterforms inside a circular symbol, representing the full cycle from beginning your sleep to waking up in the morning.
FEEDBACK
While I designed over 30 logos, I decided that the three logos shown above were the top three. After deliberation, I decided to proceed with Concept 1 as an iteration of the logo with the descriptor shown.
Free-flowing, soothing, relaxing, and clean. With these voice words, the overall design of the packaging consists of colors and patterns that represent the organic and calming rhythm of sleep but were not at all overwhelming or busy.
